Up to ten obligatory units that were previously included in the University of Nairobi’s course options have been eliminated.

The communication units that first-year students have been required to complete as well as the HIV/AIDS course are two of the ten courses that have been eliminated.

Other courses that could be eliminated are Fundamentals of Development and Their Application, Law in Society, and Elements of Philosophy.

Below is the list of the 10  courses  scrapped.

  • Communication skills
  • Fundamentals of Development and their Applications
  • Human Health
  • Law in Society
  • Environment Science
  • Chemistry and its Applications.
  • Science and Technology in Development
  • Elements of Philosophy
  • Elements of Economics and HIV/AIDS.

John Orindi, director of corporate relations at the University of Nairobi, claims that the units that were deleted are out-of-date and useless in the modern world.

Orindi asserts that in addition to the outdated and pointless courses that have been dropped, the University of Nairobi can teach its students more crucial lessons.

Orindi stated that the graduate “has to be updated with issues of climate and technology.”

“As a result, we are adapting to the times so that what we teach is current and useful to our graduates. Things that benefit the graduates are what we seek.
